On March 21, 2023, media sources said that the mass production of CATL Kirin batteries has officially started. Through the multifunctional cartridge sandwich three-effect, reconstructed water cooling system and structure space sharing, Kirin battery volume utilization rate exceeded 72%, with ternary cell energy density up to 255Wh/kg, lithium iron phosphate battery (lifepo4 battery ) system energy density up to 160Wh/kg, the battery pack integration is the world’s highest. The range can reach 1000 km.
Under the same chemical system and the same battery pack size, the power of Kirin’s battery pack can be increased by 13% compared with Tesla’s 4680 large cylindrical battery system. It can also realize a 5-minute fast hot start and 10-minute fast charging of the battery cells.
In an investor Q&A on March 22, CATL officials made it clear: “Overall, (compared to large cylindrical batteries), we believe that the square + Kirin battery scheme is better, with higher volume utilization and energy density, and its excellent thermal management design can carry more advanced fast-charging batteries.”
Kirin Battery’s first onboard mass-production model will be Extreme Krypton Automotive’s first MPV 009, which Extreme Krypton Automotive said, “Currently the 009 Kirin Battery version has a high percentage of orders.” Thereafter, the Kirin Battery will also be carried on the Inquirer Series and Avita Series models.
